Enfant du pays, Brice Vanel l’est jusqu’au bout des rétines. Si à Troyes beaucoup de gens ont été amenés à le rencontrer par le biais associatif, grâce à ses fortes implications dans des structures comme « 10 de Cœur », « Le Troisième Œil », ou aujourd’hui « Folkafon » ; Brice est également un photographe investi et talentueux qui compte déjà une bonne quinzaine d’expositions à son actif. Il expose actuellement au Comptoir des Halles, sur la proposition de Christophe Belleuvre, le propriétaire des lieux.
Et ce qui plaît à Brice depuis tout jeune, ce sont les friches industrielles : l’aventure, l’adrénaline, le goût de l’interdit, voire parfois du danger. Un silence… ou un bruit, tout est prétexte pour l’imaginaire ! Usine en attente de réhabilitation, ou bâtisse ancienne promise à la destruction, les bâtiments abandonnés sont des terrains de jeux convoités par les explorateurs urbains. Brice Vanel s’est fait quant à lui une spécialité d’aller plus loin dans la démarche et de réaliser de véritables introspections de ces édifices oubliés. De ses friches, espaces abandonnés, il va exprimer la beauté, l’incongru, ou l’étrange, tel un révélateur. Une sorte de chasse au trésor, qu’il fait partager avec maîtrise et sensibilité au travers de ses photographies.
Car c’est dans ces usines désaffectées que depuis les années 90 le jeune photographe a aiguisé son œil, appréhendé des vestiges souvent liés à la bonneterie, et s’est intéressé à leur histoire. Et avec le temps le photographe a réussi à retranscrire avec passion et sincérité ces ambiances si particulières, et inévitablement éphémères. « Nous jouons avec des choses qui disparaissent et quand elles ont disparu, il est impossible de les faire revivre », citation bien connue d’Henri Cartier-Bresson. Le photographe-explorateur en a conscience et, sans « collectionner » les lieux comme des trophées, il cherche sans cesse à immortaliser ces petits bouts d’âmes témoignant du passé et appelés à disparaître.
Explorateur jusqu’au bout, Brice Vanel est par ailleurs un photographe qui aime varier les plaisirs. Polyvalent, entre la photo argentique et la photo numérique il a fait le choix de ne pas faire de choix. Le plaisir de la photo avant la technique, il œuvre à capturer l’instant jusque sur son téléphone. Concernant ses sujets, Brice s’ouvre aussi volontiers dans cette exposition aux paysages, avec toujours la recherche d’une atmosphère, d’un graphisme, ou d’une émotion. Une belle exposition à découvrir dans un lieu chaleureux, ainsi que son autre exposition en cours au château de Vaux à Fouchères : « Splendeur et décadence », jusqu’en septembre 2017.

Brice Vanel is a son of the soil up to the end of retinas. If in Troyes a lot of people was brought to meet him by the associative way, thanks to his strong implications in structures as » 10 de Coeur », » Le Troisième Oeil « , or today « Folkafon »; Brice is also an invested and talented photographer who already counts good about fifteen exhibitions to his credit. He exposes at present to “Le Comptoir des Halles”, at the suggestion of Christophe Belleuvre, the owner of the place.
And what Brice is liking since very young, it is former industrial sites: the adventure, the adrenalin, the taste of prohibition, even sometimes danger. A silence or a noise, all is pretext for the imagination! Factory awaiting rehabilitation, or former house promised to the destruction, the abandoned buildings are playing fields desired by the urban explorers. Brice Vanel made his speciality to go farther and to realize real introspections of these forgotten buildings. Of these fallow lands, abandoned spaces, he is going to express the beauty, the improper, or the strange, like a revelation. A kind of treasure hunt that he shares with master’s degree and sensibility through his photos.
Because it is in these disused factories that since the 1990s the young photographer sharpened his eye, met vestiges often bound to the hosiery, and was interested in their history. And with the time the photographer managed to show with passion and sincerity these atmospheres so particular, and inevitably short-lived. « We play with things which disappear and when they disappeared, it is impossible to make them relive « , that is an Henri Cartier-Bresson’s well known quotation. The photographer-explorer is aware of that and, without « collecting » places as trophies, he tries ceaselessly to immortalize these small parts of souls testifying of past and called to disappear.
Explorer up to the end, Brice Vanel is besides a photographer who likes varying the pleasures. Multi-purpose, between the argentic photo and the digital photo he chose to make no choice. The pleasure of the photo before the technique, he works to capture the moment even on his telephone. Concerning his subjects, Brice opens so gladly in this exhibition to the external landscapes, with always the search for an atmosphere, a graphics, or an emotion. A beautiful exhibition to be discovered in a warm place in the city centre, as well as its other current exhibition in the castle of Valleys to Fouchères: « magnificence and decline », until September, 2017.
